Oral history of Australian mathematics education
The AAMT is establishing an initial project to record interviews with significant contributors to Australian mathematics education. The people interviewed may be teachers, teacher educators, university lecturers or consultants — anyone whose contributions mark them out as someone special. The first phase, in 2008, will involve conducting a few interviews as a pilot. In this phase, and indeed for the whole project, we are hoping that, rather than a single person going around the country conducting the interviews, individual members will volunteer to interview one of their colleagues...typically this will be someone they have worked with and hold in the highest esteem. The current intention is for material (recrded interviews; 'highlights'; transcripts) to be available through the AAMT website.
The AAMT Council sees this as a 'community project' that provides a great way for us to recognise, appreciate and learn from those who have done so much for the teaching and learning of mathematics in this country over many years. If you have a hero or mentor whose efforts you would like to record in this way, please contact Will Morony, AAMT Executive Officer. Otherwise, watch put for the release of our pilot interviews during 2008.
