Draft AAMT position paper: Consumer and Financial Literacy in Schools

Feedback was invited from the AAMT membership during 2008 to inform development of a Position Paper on Consumer and Financial Literacy in Schools. With the launch of the National Consumer and Financial Literacy Professional Learning Strategy during the year, it will be timely for the AAMT to be communicating its views on the place of financial literacy in school education, and on the roles and responsibilities of mathematics teachers and others in supporting the development of students’ financial literacy.

A final draft of the paper has been developed, informed by feedback provided during the consultation process. This is currently under consideration by AAMT Council, and a motion to adopt the position statement has been foreshadowed for the Council's next meeting in January 2009.
