Representing views of teachers of mathematics

AAMT is the national voice of the mathematics teaching profession. This section of the website is used to communicate with members during development of a variety of position papers, submissions, discussion papers and other statements made by the Association.

The mechanisms for and extent of member consultation varies with circumstances:

  • Development of a formal position statement of the Association follows an established process involving development of a draft document by a working party of AAMT members, which is then made available for one or more rounds of consultation with the entire membership before refinement on the basis of that feedback and finally adoption by the AAMT Council.
  • Development of other papers (such as submissions to various inquiries and reviews etc.) involves solicitation of input from the general membership when timelines allow. In some cases, however, circumstances require that papers are developed by the AAMT Executive and/or Council on behalf of members.

Areas of current work are listed below:

National Quality Teaching Agenda – AITSL

There are a number of national initiatives on the quality of teaching. AAMT is engaging with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership and others to contribute to the work.
