National Professional Standards Committee - Mathematics

The National Professional Standards Committee — Mathematics (NPSCM) has oversight of the uses of the AAMT Professional Standards for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics. It is a broadly representative Committee that reports to the Council of the AAMT.

Since its inception in 2002 the NPSCM has had oversight of several projects. Over the period 2008-12 the committee has oversight of the Recognising Excellence: Highly Accomplished Teachers of Mathematics Project being conducted in collaboration with the Catholic Education Office of Melbourne. Other matters for the NPSCM’s attention in 2010 and beyond are:

  • the process for renewing the HAToM credential
  • revising the AAMT Standards in the light of other work in the area
  • considering the links between the Standards and the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics
