Beginning Algebra

Towards Mathematical Modelling

Beginning Algebra
Michael Wheal

Introduces students to algebraic conventions through activities. The emphasis is on constructing models or explaining their development rather than on developing manipulative skill. Most of the activities involve mathematical modelling of tangible situations and exploration based around those models, particularly through the use of graphs and the interpretation of coordinates. Graphics calculators play a significant role in most of the activities.
