Maths Investigations
Paul Swan
Why is my birthday on a different day each year? Can a person really jump from the top of one building to the next like they do on TV? How many nappies will a baby use before she or he is toilet trained? The 40+ investigations in this book are posed as open-ended questions. Most are not straightforward. Some contain insufficient information: students will need to find out more. Others have too much information: they need to decide what is relevant. There may be one answer or several: what is the best? What is reasonable? Most are ‘messy’ and will require your students to think and work mathematically to solve them. Each investigation is presented as a blackline master.
