The Creative Use of Odd Moments

The Creative Usse of Odd Moments
Doug French

“Odd moments” are the occasions when half the class arrives late for some reason or when the main business of the lesson is completed before the bell, or whenever you as teacher contrive to find a short period of time to discuss an interesting problem. This book provides a collection of 80 diverse ideas to use creatively at such times. Each item contains something to discuss or explore which can be adapted or extended to suit a wide range of students. These “Odd Moments” originally appeared in Mathematics in School (a journal of The Mathematical Association), and are collected together in this volume with additional teacher notes on each idea.

An accompanying CD-ROM includes a sequence of PowerPoint slides presenting each item (without the additional notes), which teachers are invited to modify and use as appropriate.
