Focus in High School Mathematics: Statistics and Probability

Focus in High School Mathematics: Statistics and Probability
J. Michael Shaughnessy, Beth Chance, Henry Kranendonk

This is the first in a series of books designed to further elaborate the framework for reasoning and sense making (or understanding, problem solving and reasoning if we use the language of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics) in the secondary years that is described in the overview book "Focus on High School Mathematics". Through quite detailed descriptions of six investigations - including examples of students' reasoning and notes to the teacher - the book shows teachers how student' sense making and reasoning can be developed as they analyse data sets, construct and compare various graphical representations, gather data from simulations and construct randomised distributions, analyse a report on a statistical study, and compare data sets and test for differences between or among them.
