Girls, Boys, and Mathematics

Associate Professor Helen Forgasz & Dr David Mittelberg (Monash University) are researching the questions

  • Do girls and boys learn mathematics differently, and do their attitudes differ?
  • What do contemporary Australian mathematics teachers think?
  • Have Australian teachers’ views changed over time?
  • How do Australian teacher’s opinions compare with those of students, preservice teachers, and mathematics teachers elsewhere in the world?

In the middle of 2011, Australian secondary mathematics teachers provided date for this research by completing a survey. The researchers thank those who responded and look forward to sharing their results through AAMT journals and other means once the project is completed.
