AAMT activities and projects
From time to time, the AAMT undertakes specific research and development projects in mathematics education.
These projects may focus on professional development, curriculum development, resource development and the provision of program and policy advice to government, often in collaboration with other organisations. Helping Our Kids Understand Finance
AAMT is pleased to announce that it is the lead agency in a consortium of national professional teacher associations contracted by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) to develop a Professional Learning Package to support the development of young peoples’ consumer and financial literacy knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours.
Representing views of teachers of mathematics
AAMT is the national voice of the mathematics teaching profession. This section of the website is used for consultation with members during the development of AAMT position papers, submissions to outside organisations and other formal statements.
Make it Count: Numeracy, mathematics and Indigenous learners
With funding from the Australian Government, AAMT has established this four year project to develop an evidence base of practices that improve Indigenous students' learning in mathematics and numeracy.
ICT in Everyday Learning: Teacher Online Toolkit
During 2011-2 AAMT is partnering with Education Services Australia and other organisations to undertake a collaborative project designed to assist teachers to mmake better and more purposeful use of ICTs in their teaching. AAMT is leading the development of professional learning resources in the mathematics curriculum area.
National Literacy and Numeracy Week - "Reach for the Stars"
AAMT has conducted Australia-wide activities for schools as part of National Literacy and Numeracy Week since 2003.
National Mathematics Day 2012
National Mathematics Day 2012 is Friday 18 May and celebrates the centenary of the birth of Alan Turing by looking at codes.
National Mathematics Talent Quest
The National Mathematics Talent Quest (NMTQ) brings together the winners of state and territory competitions which recognise students' work on extended mathematical projects.

The National Mathematics Summer School (NMSS) is a program for the discovery and development of mathematically gifted and talented students from all over Australia.

Recognising Excellence: HAToM Candidates from the Catholic Education Office of Melbourne
The Catholic Education Office of Melbourne is supporting around 50 of its teachers to be assessed against the AAMT Standards for Excellence in Teaching Mathematics in Australian Schools over a five year period.
Early Childhood Initiatives
An ongoing collaboration between AAMT and Early Childhood Australia (ECA) which has included the publication of a joint Position Paper on Early Childhood Mathematics.
Collaborations with The Learning Federation
During 2008-10 AAMT has worked with The Learning Federation to develop and publish a suite of ‘digital resources' and a collection of units of work.
